RE: Windows XP tcpip problems

I'm having the exact same problem as you are William. I DO know what caused
mine. I'm just not sure how to fix it!

I switched firewalls from Agnitum's Outpost to Sygate's Personal Firewall
Pro. I uninstalled Outpost using it's uninstall option then installed
Sygate. It appeared to function properly until I restarted the system.
After restarting my system, Sygate did not appear to be running and I had all
the symptons you mentioned. I know it was the Sygate installation, because
the exact same thing happened to my laptop. Fortunately, I was able to use
System Restore to restore my system to several days before I installed Sygate
(at the time, I had no idea Sygate was the culprit). Only after the same
problem arose on my desktop after installing Sygate, did I realize that it
caused the issue. Unfortunately, after uninstalling Sygate, the problem
still exists. To compound matters, the System Restore on my desktop has
never worked properly. Whenever I try to restore, I receive the "Restoration
Incomplete" message upon rebooting.

Although our problems may have had different causes, they seem to be
exhibiting the same symptoms. I hope someone out there has some advice. I
desperately need to get my desktop (main system) back online!

Sorry this has turned into a novel! Just like William, I wanted to make sure
anyone reading this had all the info I have.

Thanks in advance,

Clem

Clem,

I sympathise with your experience. I too have felt the despair of trying to
solve a system problem using System Restore. Unfortunately, when you don't know
what caused a given problem, using System Restore to fix it is bound to be a
frustrating experience.

To help us work on your case easily, can you please start a new thread, with a
bit more detail about your problem? Mentioning William's problem, and filing
your report under his, will not get you the best attention possible.
