Repair LAN connection

OK -- overnight again I could not get an immediate connection. I had to
reboot. Here is my question -- does the Internet Gateway have to be running
in order to use the router? How do I enable it. Is it a router
configuration?

I am open to other suggestions.

Thanks.

... I'd be curious where do you see this "Internet Gateway" and exact what
does it say ..
The reason I ask is because it sure sounds the Internet Gateway and
Connection Sharing option in windows Network Connections folder ? - Which
you dont need nor want running.
Or is it the Router Icon and DI604 description in Network Neighborhood
that shows when you have uPnP enabled.

It's in the Network Connections. It is listed separately from the LAN
connection. My ISP is Comcast. So I do not want this running in the Network
Connections? Should I turn it off in the Add/Remove Windows Components?
