Modem status being reported incorrectly

I am having a problem with a pc on a dialup connection. The dialup
connection to the net works fine, but there is no modem lights or other
connection window that offer the option to disconnect when through. It
appears to me that this problem is caused by the fact the the modem's status
is being reported incorrectly. Despite that the modem is connected, the
modem shows as disconnected when looking at it's icon in the Networking and
Dialup Connections window. Any ideas?.

I also have the same problem. My modem is working fine but windows doesn't
reconize it. I wanted to try to use Net Optimizer but can't because of this
problem. PLEASE can someone help us!

austinpctech & ckmonster2001,
Have you tried the following:

1. Have you check if there is an driver and or modem software update, from the manufacturer's website, especially if you have updated Windows. Reboot PC. If there is modem software, you may need to go through the software preferences/tools settings, see if there are any power management settings that need to be changed.

2. Under Control Panel> System> Device Manager> Modem> See if there is a driver problem. You may want to try deleting the Modem entry> Reboot PC> Let Windows reinstall the modem drivers. Reboot PC.

3. Control Panel> Modem and Phones> Select Modem> Properties> Power Management tab> Clear box to turn off hardware to save Power> OK.
