I want to disconnect my dialup connection at a predefined time, say 50
mins.
The reason for this is I dial into a server for email and have free
calls for upto 60 mins. I could then redial free for another hour. But
I cannot find a way to force the dialup connection to hang up within a
pre defined time.

You can hang up after X minutes of idle, but this won't help.

Get a local electronics enthusiast to make you a phone lead that
disconnects every 55 minutes.

All you need is a relay, a timer IC and a few other cheap components.
