factors affecting DHCP performance ?

Hi:

I noticed that DHCP renew (ipconfig /renew) takes quite different time on
different machines. What are the factors affecting the DHCP performance on a
machine (XP or Win2K) ? Any articles on this?

Thanks In Advance!

autonegotiation problems. You can go into the properties for the
drivers and nail them to the 100/100/FD/HD settings you think yo show
be able to use. If you then have netowrk problems you've probably got
a wiring problem.

I've experinced "known" autonegotiation problems between a major brand
PCMICA 10/100 enet card and a current model Major Brand enterprise
switch. The solution according to the tech notes was to mail the
interfaces at both ends.

Don't blame me. I voted for Gore.

This could be caused by any number of factors, to name a few:

Network load at the time of the request - busy means slower
Network configuration - dead end routes, multiple hubs/switches in path
Server load - again, busy means slower
Client load - yep, busy means slow
Network problems - bad Ethernet or switch/hub devices causing slowdown

In addition to Richard's response:

How many dhcp clients do you have? For large number of DHCP Clients or say
"large DHCP database", following factors may also affect the server-side
performance:

* Disk space where DHCP database is stored.
* Frequency of DHCP database backup.
* Frequency of DHCP database clean-up.
