I have 2pcs A and B. A is connected directly to the internet via ADSL. A has
FAT file system and B has NTFS (XP SP2 Pro on both) . SFS has been disabled.
Local Security Policy for Sharing and Network access is set to Classic.
Still I am unable to share drives on both PCs. Is there something I'm
missing?

Hi Atif

Is File and Printer Sharing being blocked by Windows Firewall?

To find out: Control Panel -> Windows Firewall -> Exceptions. File and
Printer Sharing should be checked to allow it to work through the firewall.

FYI - the format of the drives are immaterial, as the OS on the host system
actually does the reading/writing of files to the drive.
Check as JS stated "Printer & File Sharing", but also, with SP2, you may
have a misconfigured firewall on one or both PC's.

I have checked the Firewall, File and Printer sharing is not being blocked.
Still I canot access the Network. When I try to see the other computer
Network Places--> View workgroup computers, it gives an error saying "
Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have the permission to use this
network resource........

Are they both on the workgroup "Workgroup"?

XP has an annoying habit of using MSHOME

....unable to share drives... and ...workgroup is not accessible...: Do you
have a good antivirus and all Windows critical updates installed? Open
Command Prompt, run *net share* and ensure the systems have IPC$ share.
