Hi

I just put together this computer. It has the following
cpu P4 530J, 3.0 GHZ
memory: kingston 533 mhz, ddr2 two 512 kb
mother board: intel D925xcv
seagate hd, plextor dvd/cd rw, floppy, ati x700pro graphic card.
Antec Sonata case w/ 380w power supply.
os: windows xp pro, oem version.

It seems like after I updated xp with windows SP2 and updated the bios, it
would go thru the boot screen and then just stop(on the first boot up or
when the computer is turned off) Window would not start. Then if I do a
soft boot it starts ok. I just did windows update again. It seems like
there are lots of people out there having lots of different kinds of
problems. I had no idea.
I would appreaciate any constructive advice.

Thanks
Ray

Boot screen of what - POST results or XP itself?

The symptoms you are describing are usually because of a failing power
supply, not because of software (Windows). Try swapping out your psu
with a different, known-working one. It doesn't matter if the psu you
have is new or not. New hardware can fail, and this problem is not
uncommon with psu's that come preinstalled in cases.

The first boot stops after displaying the post screen. It does not engage
the floppy drive. Upon reboot the post displays as usual then the floppy
drive light comes on and window starts.

Read Release Notes and roll back/reflash the BIOS.
