sgtray.exe and shutdown

I have recently had to restore my IBM Thinkpad T30. I usede the restore
disks, then updated all my drivers and updated Windows XP Pro to SPII (and
all other updates). Frequently, when trying to shutdown I get a message that
"sgtray.exe." is not shutting down and I have to do it manually. I believe
this is "StoreGuard" from Veritias, but I do not have that application on my
computer! I would gladly unistall it, since I don't use it and it is causing
problems, but cannot since it doesn't seem to be installed!
Is it safe to diable it in msconfig?
Is there something else I should do to prevent this problem?
Thanks,
Paul Warshawsky

Do a Search for sgtray.exe on your machine and see what folder it's in.
HOW TO: Search For Hidden Or System Files In Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302347
When located, right click sgtray.exe, select Properties and look at all the
info. If Veritias is not listed anywhere, this may be malware.

sgtray.exe is also installed by Backup MyPC. It's only function is to phone
home. It can be uninstalled after the fact and will not cripple Backup MyPC.
