Network

I cannot make a network between my computer and a friends computer both have
win xp pro. it tells me that my LAN cable is not connect even when it is.
both Ethernet card work properly. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Greg

Greg,

Is this a direct connection - the Ethernet port on your computer to the Ethernet
port on your friends computer? Are you using a cross-over cable?

If you are using a standard ethernet cable to directly connect
the two computers, that's the problem. You need what's called a
"crossover" cable.
