Profile Problems

I'm runnig WinXP PRo on a Windows networked environment. It's now happened
twice that something (in my profie?) has cause the system (My desktop's OS?
The server?) to assign me a new profile. I used to be Jess.GRC (the domain is
called GRC), then I became Jess.GRC.000 and yesterday I abruptly became
Jess.GRC.001. Each time this happens I lose all kinds of settings which I
must then re-install, all the "look and feel" stuff, programs which suddenly
don't "know" me like MS Word, Excel, etc. In addition, again, Palm Desktop
won't open since it doesn't know who I am... sigh. Does anyone have a
suggestion about why this happens and how to fix it?

By the way, it now takes AGES (20 minutes) each time I log off and log back
on. I assume this is connected to the above. I've no clue what's happening
during the "saving your profile" activities during logoff and the equivalent
activities during login. There's plenty of disk activity!

I'm contemplating giving myself an entirely new user name on this desktop
and the server, and starting from scratch... which will again, I suppose mean
that I must reacquaint myself with my computer. Fun!

Help!
Jess
