[Kirsten]

I have read all the posts about freezing or not responding and yes I have
been to the papajohn site. I still need help. I am only using digital
pictures and mpeg audio to make a movie. I don't have anything else (no
movie files or anything). I am trying to add titles to some of my pictures.
I can't add more than one or two before it freezes. When I open task manager
it says running but it isn't. I choose end task and have to choose end task
several times. It takes me awhile to get out of the frozen movie maker. I
have a brand new (one month) computer running windows XP pro with service
pack 2 that came on the computer with movie maker 2 already loaded. I would
reinstall if I knew how. I have tried changing the hardware acceleration to
the middle and that didn't help. I don't understand codecs although I did
search for them and the one papajohn says is the main culprit I don't have.
All I want to do is show my digital pictures on a DVD player that is hooked
to the television. Please help, advise, commiserate, etc.

Hello,

If you check previous posts you will see frequent mention of MP3 (mpeg)
files causing Movie Maker problems...you should convert them to WAV files
and use those instead.

If you are using JPeg stills you may also be in trouble. Certain version
of JPeg are incompatible in MM...change those to BMP files first.

If you are still having problems you should consider downloading the
Rename Codecs program from my website...its free. It will alklow you to
temporarily rename codecs tht are known to be a problem to movie
maker...remember to RESTORE them after you have finished with Movie Maker...

If none of the above helps...consider re-installing the full version of
SP2 (Download and do this whilst offline) Also consier getting the latest
DirectX and Codec pack frrom Microsoft as well as running Windows Update. If
you run update you might want to deselt the Microsoft Intrusion tool as it
right royally screws up any serious anti virus program you may have.

If none of the above helps do please ask again.

Thanks. I just want to make sure I understand. I should change the MP3
files to wav files and the jpeg files to bmp files. Will that affect the
quality of the movie/pictures? I have run microsoft update and there is
nothing that I need to update so can I assume I am covered? Also, how do I
reinstall SP2? And another also, is there any freeware that will allow me
to show my digital camera pictures on a television? The software that came
with the computer will only allow it to be viewed on a computer (DVD or CD).

Yes

The easiest way is to order a CD from Microsoft (it is free) but it takes
1-3 weeks to get it although the website says it takes longer than that.

The fastest way is to uninstall SP2 using "Control Panel -> Add/Remove
Programs" and then go to Windows Update and SP2 will be reinstalled.

Almost any DVD authoring program will do that but the good ones aren't free.
However they do offer free trials which you can use to create your slideshow
DVD's.
There's a list of the most popular ones on my website in the "DVD Programs"

Hello,

Yes, Yes and No :))

No Updates ??? That would be remarkable for a machine even one day old.
I would go back and do that again making sure that you do not use the
Express option....it might be that you have auto update turned on (Spit) in
which case you may well be up todate.

To install SP2 you either download the full file from Microsoft or order
it on CD (you pay the postage) you then install it over the top of the
existing software as if it were the instalation of any other
program....Having done that though you would be wel advised to re-run
Windows Update.

I can't help on the freeware you are looking for but a trip to
www.videohelp.com and peruse their database would be a good place to
start.......be carefull though of what I call Geek or Nerd ware...you have
one small program to do this and another small program to do that and yet
another to do something else....waste of time and what a computer is
for.....my approach is that the machine is their to work for you..not the
other way around.

If asked to recomend software to buy it would have to be Nero
(www.nero.com) It does everything you would ordinarily want in the video
line...including replacing Movie Maker and it will burn to any format style
disk you are able to buy. In addition it does everything else you will ever
need with regard to making other types of DVD (not video) and CD's
