Video Capture Device is not Detected

Okay,
I've seen this message so many times and I have the same problem but haven't
found the answer; here's my specs:
Sony DCR-TRV 320 Digital Video Camera
Connected via an IEEE 1394 Cable (firewire)
I've noticed some respondents to others looking for help have suggested
getting a driver - driver for the Firewire Port or driver for the Video
Camera? Sorry to ask such a stupid question. Don't know who to call or
where to go to make this work. Windows Moviemaker doesn't seem to allow me
to go anywhere and select a Device (although the instructions for capturing
video say that it does). Help?

Drivers for their devices are provided by the hardware manufacturer. Check
the Sony web site.

Sony says there is no driver for the Video Camera, nor is one necessary.
They think I do not have a driver for my IEEEE1394 Port????
Need more help, Eleina

Maybe the following article will be useful:
Download Video to Your
Computer with Windows
Movie Maker 2

Also, try searching the MSKB for "IEEE 1394"
....you may find some useful info.
Microsoft Knowledge Base

(to begin the search...left click the Arrow,
mouse over...says "Run The Search")

"Drivers for their devices are provided by the hardware manufacturer.
Check
the Sony web site."
Eleina,
Sony is correct. Application software for camera products are provided
by the manufacturer, Drivers for Firewire are provided by the OS, in
this case Microsoft XP.
There are problems with the SP2 Firewire drivers that Microsoft is
working on.
Please stand by . . . .

I remember downloading a hotfix (even though I think I didn't need it ) which
had something to do with the fact that the upgrade to SP2 caused some IEEE
ports (A or B) to revert to a speed of 100 instead of 400Mbps which could
cause capture issues. I know this isn't Eleina's specific issues, but it does
support a problem more with the OS and port than the camera. Anybody have
further insight? I've had no problems with my Sony TRV-460 and Belkin 3 port
IEEE card.
