This Annoying Constant Freezing and Crashes

This is really starting to aggravate me. Everytime I try to use the program,
at some point it ends up freezing and crashing on me, and I don't know what
to do at this point. I tried all the possible solutions out there but nothing
works, I would resort to another movie maker, but WMM is the one that really
is the easier one to use, and unfortunately it has to have this problem. Is
there anything I can do to fix this crashing problem? The movies that I use
are from The Sims 2 game and they are AVI format. I really can no longer
stand this anymore. I've stopped the movie, because of the constant crashing.
And I can't get any work done, because of it. I have to keep saving every
minute, plus its not a good working environment, and also I have to worry
that this thing could crash any minute. Its really severe on my computer and
help would really be appreciated.

It may or not be related to your freezes, but for the first time ever, I had
a solid freeze using Movie Maker when I used a new plugin from Pixielan. It
may be that instead of dragging a Video Effect -zooms- to the actual photo I
did it on top of the Transition. It was a solid freeze and the only way out
of it was for me to use WinXP Task Manager and end Movie Maker.

I installed WMM on a separate partition away from the partition that was
causing the problems so any codecs would not interfere. And it has still
continued to freeze. I do have a driver for the main audio device that I use
for my custom built computer. It is not digitally signed. Could that be the
cause for the problems I'm experiencing? What are the possible causes?

I also must add that I use the movie files from The Sims 2. Can it also be
possible that The Sims 2 Movie codec may not be compatible as well?
