I downloaded i avi file of teh internet and i can not delete it i have tried
everthing including system restore. the funny thig about restore is that
since i download this file yesterday the only date for system restore is that
date how as it wiped the other dates. is there any way of getting these
checkpoint dates back. i have also posted under unable to delete file and
did not know if i could ask a diffrent ? on the same post.

See "Locked Files Wizard" / "Copylock"
http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=misc#CopyLock

They can help to delete files. And keep in mind, if deletes do not work in Normal mode of Windows, you'll have to do it in Safe Mode.

As to your lost system restore points, are you very sure System Restore shows no other dates?
How much free space is on each of your hard drive volumes?

Hi Monty,

This sound suspicious. I suggest doing a scan for virus/malware
infection.

Here is a combination of utilities that I have found to work very well
in the removal and prevention of virus infection, spyware, parasites,
malware and the like.
