Capture format

I notice when WMM asks in what format you want to capture footage from your
Mini DV camera, there are many options. My question is why are almost all the
options saved as a .wmv type file (except for the .avi option)? How for
example do you capture footage as mpeg2?

you don't... Movie Maker only renders to WMV or DV-AVI files.

In that case can you produce a file with WMM that can then be burnt to disc
and played in a standalone DVD player? I thought a file had to be mpeg2 to be
playable in a standalone DVD player.

You're right... and Movie Maker can't do it. You have to use other software
to create the MPEG-2 files needed for the disc.... from either a WMV or
DV-AVI file from MM2.
