Hi all,

Quick question:

It's taking entirely too much time and effort for me to capture & save (let
alone edit) my videos onto DVDs. If I have them put onto DVD
(professionally) will I then be able to copy those DVDs to share with other
family members?

I use DVDShrink to make copies instead of re-rendering. If you have Nero v5
or v6 this tool works great. Its free too.

however you might consider ... everyone I know who has paid to have their
home movies transferred to VHS or DVD is very unhappy with the final
results. A professional company does not know you, your kids, your
neighbors, your memories, and as such has not way to import and store your
memories with any caring or emotional attachment. you will get back
exactly what you give them. a bunch of DVD's with no editing, no
chronology, If all you want / need is exact copies of your videos then a
professional company may in fact be the way to go, but if your looking to
create something really special to give to family and friends, the only one
who can really do that justice is you.

I burn dvds and they won't play on either one of my dvd players. I've updated
my software and hardware but no luck. I have mydvd, clonedvd, shrinkdvd and
x-copy platium.

do they play in anything ?? I have 6 or 7 players at home and have yet to
have a problem with any home made DVD ?

Open the DVD in Windows Explorer and see what the filetypes are.
I suspect you are burning video files to your DVD instead of authoring a
DVD.

I also use DVDShrink and it is faster than most copying programs I have
tried plus if you have a setup like mine (1 DVD Player and 1 DVD Burner) it
is all that much faster. I just open the DVD click Backup and walk away for
an hour or less and I have a working copy of my DVD (No I do not advocate
piracy)

Does DVDShrink degrade the video quality of the DVD that it makes? Am
guessing that it has to if the source material is more than the the 4.3
(?) GB available on the target DVD-r, but what if the source material
is, say, 4 GB or less?

I, too, am looking for the fastest way to copy DVD's and DVD-r's, using
a WinXP system.

Well obviously if you are copying single layered disk to single layered disk
there is no degradation what-so-ever. If you are copying dual layered to
single layered the degradation isn't really noticeable in most cases.
