Resizing Pictures

I read that, to keep from getting a black border around some of the pictures,
to resize them. I ned to know how to do this. I have Windows XP and am
using Photoimpressions software and am not very inept at it. Does XP offer
something more, can I do this from there, or how is it done? Thanks for all
the help, y'all!

you need to 'Crop' them to the correct ratio.....most photo editors/jpeg
editors will do it. eg. irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/), MS Photoedit,
or the photoeditor that came with your camera (I use a viriety....whatever
is easiest to hand).
What ratio do you need?

Ummmmmmm...I don't know what ration I need...how do I know that? Can you
tell I'm new at this???

I have a program called Microsoft Digital Image Pro, I can edit pictures
easily. It let's you Crop them.

Try 640x480 if it makes no black bars you are good (I think you'll be good)

If it makes black bars - then tell us where they are and roughly how big.

L tried this and still no luck. The black bar is on the top and bottom of
4X6 pictures; however, pictures that are printed vertically (ie. 6X4) the
border is all the way around it. Now....this is what I'm seeing on the
screen in MM2. I have not successfully figured out how to copy to dvd to
watch on tv yet (and that will be a whole other issue that you'll hear from
me later on!) but I am assuming that this is what will show on tv, too. I
had read earlier that I needed a 4:3 ratio (1600 X 1200, etc) but that
didin't work either. I'm just not getting the concept, I'm afraid. Thanks
for your help and patience with me. I'm still trying!

Hi Mimi;

You will always see some black on the MM2 preview screen. It has black
borders. Try draging (normal Microsoft click, hold and drag) the MM2
screen boder to the right. When it gets to a certain size you should see
the sceen borders pop up in grey.

If you choose the right photo proportions then it should be ok on the TV.

What you are trying to do is get the picture to have the same
proportions as the TV screen. Normal TV screens are 4:3.

Pictures that are vertical (ie portrait) will always have black around
them since they are a different shape to the tv screen. You will need to
crop them so that they are in a ratio of 4x3 (ie 4 across the top and 3
down the side). Of course this is not always possible as you lose too
much of the picture.
