Will Excel 97 run in Windows XP?

If I purchase just Excel 97 on a disk, can I run it in Windows XP? I
don’t need all the other Office stuff, just the basics. I already
have Word 2002. Just need an Excel program. I found an Excel 97 I
can buy for about $75. I just don’t know if it will run in XP...??

Save yourself $75, Barb, and visit www.openoffice.org. That will most
likely do what you want.

But Word is a spreadsheet as well. It's not it's primary purpose and it's UI isn't great but for simple small spreadsheets it may be enough. What do you want to do?

Excel 97 works fine with Windows XP. I also recommend you give Open Office a
try first.

There's another excel compatible spreadsheet program that is pretty good-
better than open office's one imho. It does most of what Excel does, can
save directly (and open) excel files. It even has a pocketpc and Linux
versions- it's called Planmaker. $50.
There's a trial version so you can try it for 30 days:

I have used the spreadsheet function in Word, and it’s fine. But I
just like Excel because you can create multiple worksheets in one
workbook. I also have some files I did earlier in Excel that I now
can’t open after my other computer crashed since this computer doesn’t
have Excel on it. I think I’ll take a look at the Open Office site.
Thanks for that suggestion.
Will Excel 97 run in Windows XP?
