how to delete partitions?

Many moons ago, I divided my hard drive into three partitions by adding a
couple of lines in the config.sys file. This was back when I knew a little
about computers, and long before XP. How do I get rid of those? If I could
find the config.sys file I altered, I would delete those lines, but when I
search for config.sys, I don't find anything recognizable.

I should indicate that I don't care if anything on the D and E partitions
lives - I don't want to merge them, I want to delete them completely. Other
posters recommended a third-party product; is there a way to do it without
buying something else?

pacalaga:
config.sys is a relic of the past insofar as the XP OS is concerned and
surely has no relevance with respect to creating/deleting partitions in an
XP environment.

In order that you receive some meaningful response to your query, it would
be best if you would give some detailed and specific information as to your
present partitioning scheme and your precise objective(s) in modifying such.

To delete them in xp,boot to xp cd,recovery, press enter for password, then
type:DiskPart In DiskPart all partitions are shown, delete as you need, then
press
Esc key, then type:EXIT You can also open cmd prompt, type:DiskPart then
type:HELP for all cmds.

pacalaga:
Start > right-click My Computer > Manage > Computer Management > Disk
Management
Use that utility to delete your partitions.

Why not just right-click on My Computer, select "Manage", go to "Disk
management" and remove the partitions there? MUCH easier than booting into
Recovery mode off the CD!

how to delete partitions?
