XP Pro Reinstall Questions

After a reinstall a few issues exist. This was a pre SP2 cd with SP2 run
subsequently.

1) All of my desktop shortcuts and Start Menu links were lost - in fact the
All User folder contains the correct names, but just a bunch of blank links.

2) More importantly, If I navigate to start most programs (all Office
programs) I get the old "Microsoft Word (etc.) has not been installed for
this User". I don't remember creating a new user - but now I'm stuck.

All pre-reinstall files and structures still exist, so it pains me to think
about reinstalling all these programs just to register them for a new user
account.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,
Stan
