Without the use of some basic tools, you are not going to fix it. You should, in that case, seek local help.

If you want to open Device Manager, and MSinfo, to see whats going on:

Go to start/Run, and type:
MSINFO32 /category ComponentsDisplay
Then click in the Left pane item for "Sound Device" to see what is listed there in the Right pane.

Next, start/run, type DEVMGMT.MSC
This will list sound devices, and if thay have 'conflicts' (doubleclick a device to see it's Properties)

To attempt to fix your sound drivers:

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the Sound device, Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the
device drivers again automatically.

To find your "mixer', go to star/run, and type : SNDVOL32

If not present:
To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type: SFC /SCANNOW
