I have used movie maker in the past with few problems other than the
occasional freeze, which is not a big deal. I started having trouble a few
weeks ago, when i could no longer watch the project that i am already 3/4 of
the way done with. I was working fine, and then one day my maker jsut
stopped working. The buttons on the media player inside of movie maker are
all greyed out and when i click a sop on the thiime line, my preview box just
shudders. I tried to import a picture as well, resulting in movie maker
saying "..has encountered a problem and needs so close" so i tried again
with sound, other pictures, and different video clips, all saying the same
thing, can anyone help me?

I'd start out by saving the project you already have (as a backup) then going
and doing a system restore (start>all programs>accessories>system
tools>system restore). It's like going back in time. Go back to when
everything was working fine and then try it again. That's what I would start
with.
