usually the simple answer is to reinstall the software then delete it.
You can also try the removal in safe mode and make sure the software is
not running when you try to remove it

Use the Uninstall AVG Free Edition for Windows item in the Start Menu. AVG
will remove itself gracefully.

It sounds like you went to program files found the folder, and then
pressed delete on the folder, then tried to use the uninstaler, whcih
you just delted, so your stuck with it now, unless you do a system
restore to befor you installed it or delted it’s folder. Plus, delting
the folder will (to en extente) uninstall the program, you’ll
probabley get a bunch of errors from now on saying some thing is
missing, and have all the registarty entries for that programe. The
actual way to remove it properly now, is to install it, then uninstall
it properly.

Never delete, always use uninstall option of program or add/remove program
of windows.
You can delete AFTER you have done the above if you find any reminents of
them.
