language/IME issues

I study Japanese and some time ago, on a different computer with Windows XP
Home, I was playing around with the language options and accidently stumbled
upon a massive 7,000+ character database of Japanese characters within
Windows XP that allowed you to choose and copy every character in the
database. Now, I have a new computer with Windows XP Professional and I need
to access this database again. However, some how I've become completely
stupid and can't even remember how to get the language bar to work so I can
type in Japanese in Wordpad and I can't find any way to get into this
database again. Does anyone here even know what I'm talking about? Windows
Help doesn't seem to.

Hi

You need to install support for japanese.
here is how you do this.
open control panel
open regional and languages options.
click on the languages tab
check both the boxes in supplemental language support.
you will be prompted for the installation media.
when the installation is complete. windows will reboot and now you will get
japanese fonts installed on your computer.
