Westchester Design Challenge
Hi,
I am the contest facilitator at a new Verizon Fios Internet Lounge in
WestChester PA. Were having a design contest where students age
13-20 can design a music video using movie maker, a graphic design
poster using image maker, or a website using front page.
A few of the students are having problems with saving the movie file
so we can burn it to a DVD. Thats a major problem for us because we
need to save this file and upload it to our community vault so judges
around the country can view and judge the entries. Is there anyone
(Papa John) that can help me figure out how I can resolve this
problem? These kids worked so hard on their project and it'll be sad
to see them not be able to view their project along with the others at
the FiOS Fest were having on Saturday. Plus it'll be unfortunate to
see them disqualified from winning nice prizes like lab tops, free
internet service, or an ipod. I'd really appreciate your help.
Thanks....
Imey
Sounds like a great project.
How are you saving the File? If you save as a DV-AVI file it will or should
burn without any problems in your DVD Burning program (Nero, ulead or what
ever you have). If you save it as an .avi and don't burn it you can upload
it without any problems as long as the person playing it has the right codec
for their player. They can save it as .wmv if the person or persons playing
it have window media player too. It really is up to you, but I would save it
as a DV-avi then burn it and whatch it on your TV and also save the DV-avi
for uploading and burn a copy as a data file.
Here is a tutorial how to do this and more. It would be wise to have your
class watch this.

Hi Imey,
You say a few are having problems saving the movie... hopefully that means
that most are going along OK...
An internet lounge... does that mean all the computers are configured the
same, and those with difficulty saving might be on the same computers as
those saving OK.... or are they doing the projects at home on personal
computers?
Have you seen my Problem Solving > Can't Save a Movie website page?
I have lots more questions than suggestions at this point... I'll be around
for the rest of the week...

Hi Papa John,
Thanks for responding. Yes we are at an internet lounge, but the
computers do not have a shared drive. However, students have been
working on the same computers and some can save but some cannot. We
want to save al these files as a large High Quality Movie so we can
screen the projects at the FiOS Fest on Saturday. We also need to
upload the finished entries into our main vault and they cannot be
read in the vault as movie maker projects cause we'll loose all the
source files. I checked out your website and didn't find a
resolution directly related to our problem but will keep reading.
Please let me know if you may have any feedback. Thanks.
