I have a seagate hard drive i bought last year. It is a 200 GB hard drive and
i installed it myself for media useage like pictures (jpegs), home videos,
dvd data, music files and downloaded programs. Everything has been fine until
recently. I run defrag and cleanup utilities frequently. A few weeks ago,
after reseting, it brought up the blue windows checkdisk screen and ran some
checks. The phrase "Inserting an index entry into index $0 of file XX" kept
scrolling on the screen, then "recovering orphaned file xxxx into directory
file XXXX" also scrolled down the screen for a while. Then a summary screen.
Then it loaded up and it seemed like everything was ok. yesterday i was
clicking on some pictures and some would not open up. It said "can't
determine type". So, i wasn't sure what was going on but I backed up all my
media files that i could onto my laptop and the ones that wouldnt open up on
my desktop still didnt open up on my laptop. so is this data lost or
corrupted for good? help!
