Movies burnt on DVD-RW play fine on my TV, however when I burn them on DVD-R
I cannot play them on my TV.

Have you checked the format on your player and how old is your DVD player?
Some Players will not start automatically so you must start it if there is
no Menu. Try it in someone elses player if it works it's your player if not
you may have problems with your burning program or even the DVD-r a lot of
them are bad about 6%-10% depending on who you believe. The medical
community was up in arms about this with floppys a few years ago and now
with Disc's and the storage of data on disc in a medical device in surgery
or other usues in the medical field. so it could be a bad disc.

Thanks Jim. I'll check it out on another DVD player. I should mention
though that the DVD-R does play on my PC, and my TV set is only 4 years old.

Don't matter how old the TV is, matters how old the DVD player is :-)
But your right try to play it on another player.
It seems that some DVD players won't accept -R disks but will accept +R
disks but since some DVD writers will only take one or the other as well it
can become an issue but a rare issue.

My nephew burns his movies in DVD-r and some play on his PS2 and some don't
so I not sure why that is but the same may be happening for you too if your
DVD player is capable of playing DVD-r. He checks them by playing them on my
DVD player also.
