I am trying to burn a movie in Nero VisionExpress. I saved it as AVI and
imported it to VisionExpress. I click on make a DVD-video, add video files. I
open the movie file in my videos folder. I click next and it brings up a
menu file--I click next and it brings up a preview option. When I click next
I see the burn options. If I click "Burn To" it shows:
LITE-ON DVD+RW SOHW-8026 or
Image recorder
I don't know which to select. I want to use a DVD-R disc. When I click on
one these it says it is transcoding and nothing seems to happen wth the DVD
drive. I only let it run about 5 minutes. The movie is 40 min. Any help will
be appreciated. Am I not letting it do its thing?

The movie must be completely transcoded before its burned. This could take a
while, depending partially on the length of the movie. I usually set mine up
to transcode and burn and go to bed.

In other words, no, you aren't giving it time to finish, if I m reading your
post correctly.

I think Rach is correct....I'm just as impatient as Jim... ha ha It takes
a while to
transcode and then to burn. While it is transcoding your dvd is not being
used so you won't see anything. Since I don't use Nero, I don't know, but
most dvd burning programs have visual means to show percent completed or at
least some method of letting you know that it is working. If yours says it
'transcoding', then it is likely transcoding for a while before it turns to
the burning process. Rach, my method usually doesnt involve going to bed,
but merely to go out for a long ride or to eat, or a trip to the local
electronics store.... ha ha Good luck Jim....

Thanks dickmr and Rach,
I am a little impatient. I didn't know that the transcoding takes effect
prior to the burning process. VisionExpress does show progress bars at the
bottom of the screen. I was surprised when my 40 min video project converted
to avi with no hitches. Now to get it to disk. Thanks for all of your help.

They are both absolutely correct.
NVE will convert the files to DVD files (MPEG2).
This takes way longer than the time to actually burn to disk. Expect a long
delay while checking, converting, 2nd pass, rechecking etc... and then a
whopping 5 minutes or so (depending on the speed of the drive and the speed
of DVD you purchased) to actually burn the DVD.
I would do as the other two said and start the process and leave (maybe not
to eat as dickmr says cause if you do a lot of DVD creating you'll get fat
;-) )but definitely leave it alone to do it's job.
I would also add that you should disable your screensaver before starting
the rendering. If the screensaver pops up it will take resources away from
NVE which will make the process take longer and very well could create a
movie that looks choppy and/or audio sync problems etc...

Thanks Wojo,
I have already transferred to VisionExpress and burned a DVD. All went
smoothly. I think some of the problems I see on these posts (hangs etc.)
maybe due to a computer that has a slow processor, slow drive, or memory
problems. I save all still pics as jpeg nothing else. I think consistency in
formats prevents problems. Thanks for all your help. Papajohn is a
lifesaver too.
