Fonts replaced with Martlett symbols

My fonts in my font folder (Control Panel > Fonts) keep deleting when I shut
down my computer. I have to reinstall them every time I boot up. I've scanned
and scanned for viruses, spyware etc. and all reports are clean. I've tried
Tweak UI to no avail. System Restore reports that no changes have been made
to my system.
Any hints tips or smart advice will be greatly appreciated.

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type: SFC /SCANNOW

Thanks Mark,
Tried that and the little black screen flashed up for about a tenth of a
second and nothing happened. Any more suggestions?

You can try a Repair, or "Upgrade" setup.

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)

Man I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that as I'm a bit technologically
challenged and that's quite an ordeal. I've many critical updates installed
and yes I have SP2 installed. I just trust MS and let auto update do it's
thing :) which it has...a bunch! Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The strangest thing has happened...I was looking at the fonts (the ones I had
reinstall every time I signed on) and noticed that there was at least 1 set
of duplicates. One of the files was missing a few letters or numbers in the
name of the font so I deleted the one that appeared to be missing something.
Now my fonts are all fixed! What the heck is up with that????
