I have a Compaq Presario 700 running XP Pro SP2 and it is constantly
freezing. The system completely stops responding. Nothing is getting written
to the event logs and it requires a hard reboot to restart.

I would like to use Perfmon to try and locate the cause but I could use some
help on what counters I should configure to try and isolate the cause.

Thanks for any help

Hi,

Start the computer in safe mode. then identify the programs that are in the
start up group and then disable them one by one to identify the cause.

also avoid having too many items in the start up group since they can take
up lot of memory and cause your computer to freeze.

Another suggestion will be to check for virus and perform a system
defragmentation.
