TRANSITION
I am using Movie Maker 2.1 and the transitions or fades are jerky. The fades
using Nero are just fine. Any Ideas
Possibly a resources problem such as maybe not enough memory available due
to programs running in the background.

or if you are watching the preview mode in MM, it shows movies at 15fps and
low res.

True, but have you experienced jerky transitions due to preview?
I know you will see poor quality but I've never experienced jerky
transitions.

Depends on his idea of what is jerky, if he's only seeing every other frame
it may appear jerky, also coupled with the lack or resources you mention
making it appear even worse.

Thanks for the info. I discovered that the data was on an external drive.
Once the data was moved to an internal drive things worked OK. Thanks.

That'd do it. External drives usually are slower.
