I am trying to upgrade my kids day care into the current decade and upgrade
their computer to xp pro. When upgrade advisor runs it gets to about 75%
done (on the little slide bar) then reboots the computer back to 98. Any
ideas??

PC is brand new AMD processor and asus board just copied over their old hard
drive.

Thanks

I would forget about copying the old hard drive. Just do a clean
install of Windows XP and then reinstall the applications.

You can do a clean install with an upgrade version of XP. Just have
the original Windows 98 install CD available so you can insert it
briefly when asked to.

Good luck

Save all important data onto a CD or separate drive before trying the
upgrade (just in case). The install process may work OK, but I've found with
XP the best thing is to install it as a new OS rather than over the top of
the existing OS- it results in a more stable OS which is one of the reasons
for making the change. If using the update CD it will ask you to insert your
qualifying OS CD part way through the install if the files aren't on the
disk.
