There is a simple quick fix!

Open the Media Player

At the top, Click on "Tools"

Select "Options"

Click on the "Devices" tab

In the list of devices, double-click on "Speakers"

Under 'audio device to use' it probably lists your sound card ... this
is wrong!
using the selector button on the right side of the window, change this
setting to:
"Default Directsound Device" (Note that "Directsound" will show as one
word).

This is my small contribution for much help I've received about MS
products that MS does not support.

This problem happens because MS never should have allowed this setting
to be changed ... it's senseless.
