CD/DVD Drives Disappeared From Windows

I have been having a lot of trouble with malwre attacks on one machine. So
far, I have been unable to completely eliminate it. The latest problem: my
CD/DVD drives have disappeared from Windows (XP Professional)! The device
manager shows the drives as: "... configuration information (in the registry)
is incomplete or damaged (Code 19)." The drives are there and working -- I
can see them in the recovery console.
I thought I could use the system restore function to get the drives back,
but alas, something had turned off the System Restore function, and
apparently deleted any restore points that I had.
Does anyone have any idea how I can recover these drives??
Thanks,
D.

Never mind. Even though I had not removed EZ CD Creator, the fix described
for that situation worked.
