I had the same problem and found the solution on the microsoft web site.
Here is a link:

This is my interpretation of the info from the link:

Make sure you have the latest Windows XP service pack then modify the
registery (as below) and reboot.
Obviously, if you are not comfortable modifying a registery, don't try
this.

Here are the steps:
1. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

2. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
3. Type NoSimpleNetIDList, and then press ENTER.
4. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
5. Type 1, and then click OK.

Exit the registery and reboot.

Don't forget to test, to make sure it works.
