You can also try if it comes down to it with genealogy stuff on there resort
to getting a second harddrive from the store or from another computer and
putting your new copy of xp or any OS on it and then using your locked
harddrive as a slave harddrive and then just accessing the information you
wanted to save by transfering it to the new harddrive you just installed. It
sucks but its a way to save any needed info.
