How do I change the default jpeg compression when taking a picture from a DV
frame in Moviemaker? I would like to retain the DV quality of the saved
xxx.jpg file instead of the high compression that Moviemaker applies.

I don't think you can.

Use Media Player Classic to play the clip and take the snapshot
(File->Save Image) in lossless BMP format.

Thanks Rehan. It would be easier if the pcture save routine prompted for the
compression setting, but this is a work-around.

I suggest U to enlarge the view (full screen option in the movie maker
programm), then capture the screen by mens of the windows capture screen
combination keys (ctrl+shift+print).
The picture will be saved in the windows clipboard. Working in a multitask
mode with a image processing program (like the freeware irfanview for
example), paste the clipboard in that program and choose the preferred file
type in the file saving options. In JPG U will have the compression level
option too.
It work very well.
