2 gig 2 much

Hi I have a amd 1800+ cpu 512 ram, geforce 4 Ti4200 128 meg vid car.

I captured a 2 gig avi, I want to cut out about 30 secs or less even, doesnt
matter
how much or how many I want to cut out and make into a movie of any sort, it
just goes on and on. Saving... 10 mins then 20 then 20000 mins, it seems like
it going to go on for ever to save a fraction out of this movie to create
another one.
Is my system just too slow to cut out and create another movie from a 2 gig
avi or what, what is happening...??

Hi John.

Isnt there a simpler way then reading through all of your problem solving
files, this is suppose to be a simple process, capture, clip and save, not
capture clip and spend days working out the problem with some mysterious
codec that may or may not be the problem, this is very frustrating and time
consuming. If you have all the answer's as in trying to remove, rename and
disable certain files, cant you make or get microsoft to make a program to do
all this stuff automatically, like an update file or extra utility program or
something, why for me as a microsft consumer should spend hours sorting out
there problem.?

Regards Joffa...

Hi Joffa,

I usually point posters to a section or paragraph, but you didn't provide
enough info for me to take a good guess at what the issue might be.... and I
don't like making random or bad guesses.

I've read through your help sections on saving and crash's.
My problem is when I goto save the work I have done the progress bar stops
moving after only about 2%, and the minutes start to increase, the cpu
activity drops to nothing, indicating that the rendering has stopped for some
reason.
I went through the list of .ax files and renamed 7 I have in my sys32 dir, I
also changed my performce settings and still the same thing is happening, in
the mean time I have Ulead Video Studio 7 that came with my firewire card and
it seems to be doing the work rather nicely, no hicups yett, its a shame, I
would rather work with Movie Maker then the Ulead one...

I hope the 64bit version of Movie Maker works better then the old one...

Is there anything else I can try...

The .ax files are usually issues when crashing or hanging while editing....
not when rendering to a movie. My Problem Solving > Can't Save a Movie page
doesn't mention .ax files.

Check your task manager for the peak memory usage during the session and see
if the peak number is about the same as the limit.... it would usually mean
that somewhere in the session more memory was needed and wasn't available,
in which case things stop.

It the peak memory is comfortably lower than the limit, then it's not a
memory issue....

It could be a hard drive space issue...

the types of source files being used should be looked at next, my rendering
a small sample file with just one clip of each type in it... to both DV-AVI
and WMV formats... to be sure you don't have a Movie Maker or computer
system issue. If you've previously rendered lots of movies successfully with
the same file types, you can skip this, if you're confident your setup and
computer are both in good shape....

If all else is OK, then it's time to see if it's one of the source files...
which could be corrupt or a file type issue.... a bit of detective work to
narrow it down....

The reason there is no simple fix, is because EVERYONE'S system (and
therefore, everyone's problem) is different. you have loaded different
software on your system than I have on Mine. If Microsoft released a patch
to disable all the third party codecs, they'd be back in court fighting
monopoly charges. YES, Windows movie maker is very Buggy and does not
"play" well with many codecs, but once you get it working you'll love it.
it is still my preferred movie editing software, even over many others that
cost hundreds of dollars.
