I have 2 copies of windows XP Home on my Hard Drive. Only 1 is the original.
Ineed to get rid of the 2nd WindowsXP. Unfortunately the 2nd XP that does not
really belong is the one that gets me online, but WMPlayer doesn't work
properly, I cant do any Burning, and many other thinks I cant do. When I go
into the original version, WMPlayer works just fine, I can Burn but cant burn
any files from Version that I have been using to get online etc. A complete
system restore was done with the Gateway CD's that came with the computer, I
left a PCI card in that did not originally come with computer(WinTV), and
thats when the 2nd version of Windows XP Home got there, I Think!!!
I took the WinTV Card out but I am afraid to do another Complete Restore
with the CD's that came with computer as I don't want to do any more damage.
There are also files on the 2nd version which I can't save or Burn and I
don't want to loose them.
I think(Icould very well be wrong!!!!!!!!) that leaving that WinTV card in
when I did the CD Restore could have been my problem??????
Any More Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated!!!!

"Thanks peterk for your earlier help, I will be trying what you suggested"

Thanks everyone for your great help, I've learned alot just reading the posts.

I am almost sure that leaving the WinTV card in the computer did not
cause your problem. Perhaps you specified a new location for WinXP
when you did the restore and thus ended up with 2 installations. WinXP
will allow that. If you want only one WinXP and are happy with a brand
new install, format your drive and start from scratch with the Gateway
restore CD. Since it sounds as if neither of the WinXP's are working
the way you want them to, that might be your easiest choice.
Otherwise, you could use MSCONFIG to edit your bootini file and delete
the WinXP you installed second. Then, after booting into your first
windows, just delete the folder where the 2nd XP is installed. I think
it has to be a different folder than your first install. (When you are
in MSCONIF, note the folders where the two WinXP's are installed so
that you can find them. Also, make sure you know which is which. I
think you must have one install on your main boot drive (usually C:),
so you don't want to delete that one.) If you aren't sure of what you
are doing, get someone to help.

I noticed you said you couldn't save or burn some files you wanted in
the 2nd version of Windows. Why can't you save them? If they are
important, you don't want to delete their folder until you've copied
them somewhere else. Usually when you are "in" one window
installation, you can see on the hard drive the other install and move
files between them, if they are data files. For instance, you could
copy data from your 2nd windows to the data folder in your first
windows install. Have you tried that?

First mistake was buying a Gateway machine, second on the crap list
only to emachines.
I wouldnt let my neighbours dog piss on an e-machines computer.

Leaving the TV card in the computer while doing a system restore,
should not cause the problem you are having. Do you still have warranty
on the computer? Your best bet may be to call Gateway tech support and
have them walk you through the restore process.

It sounds like what you have is called a parallel install (2 copies of
XP on the same partition). A parallel install is an unstable
environment for your PC, and the easiest way to get rid of it, is to
re-format the drive and reinstall the operating system.
