Has anyone else had difficulty. When connecting New FujiFinepix 810 Camera
to computer, photos meant to start down (up)loading automatically - nothing
happens on my computer? Have installed all the accompanying software which
seemed fine. Nothing at all happening when I plug in. Can't work it out from
the online help centre, which seems to reccommend downloading a Microsoft
Autoplay Repair Wizard. ANy advice from readers? I have WIndows XP - 2003,
I was able to download onto my old laptop, but want to use the pc!

If possible, I suggest you check the camera on another computer and see if
it is recognized. I've seen several FinePix camera lose the capability to
interface due to a hardware failure in the camera. One of them was repaired
under warranty and failed again a few months later.

Thanks for your speedly reply. I have tried on an aging laptop and it worked
fine. So it has to be to do with some failure with my computer. Most
irritating.
ANy more ideas???

Does Device Manger show any problem with the USB ports? Sometimes deleting
the USB ports (even if shown as OK) and letting Windows reinstall them
automatically on a reboot seems to fix these kinds of issues.

Is Service Pack 2 installed. (I ask because of some USB related items it
includes.)

I've got a FinePix S7000, not the same camera as you but I'm not
experiencing this problem. I loaded the drivers (drivers are required with
my camera in order for windows to recognize it) and it does work fine. Do
you see your camera as a removable drive or some sort in Windows Explorer
when it is connected and powered on? If so, the camera is being recognized
and I would suspect that you are having a software problem.

Hello there. Thanks for your reply. I feel such an ignoramus. My heart
totally sinks at the thought of installling drivers???!! GOd knows how or
from where. Everything seems to take me so long to do!
I have just plugged in and Looked on Explorer. The Camera DID show up as a
storage device and I was able to copy the images into windows MEDIA and view
them there!!
So what - o wise discussion group bods - do you reckon is actually wrong?
The driver, or what?
I get an error message about the USB port not being fast, but the same thing
occurred on my laptop and that didn't stop the download./upload?
Someone else has suggested my anti virus software may be stopping something,
but I think that sounds unlikely. What do you thinK?

Ta for any help you can give me.

That was a good suggestion from Peter to check in Windows Explorer. Please
disregard my advice re. the USB drivers. (I was assuming you couldn't see
the camera at all - I should have confirmed that at the outset.) Your
camera is communicating with the computer. The fact that it doesn't launch
the FinePix software narrows the issue. You could try uninstalling and
reinstalling the program or running the Autoplay Repair Wizard. You were on
the right track with that initially.

Your camera is recognized, good news. Not all cameras require drivers to be
installed in order to be recognized. My S7000 requires drivers, I don't
know if yours does. It may require a driver in order for it to
automatically download photos from the camera to the PC but I don't know,
I've not used this. I would think that if there is a setting in the FinePix
software that has to turned on in order to have automatic downlaods, then
that should be turned on by default. Check the settings in the software for
this. Perhaps the software itself needs to be reinstalled if that fails.
