Can anyone tell me how to get to the C: prompt after my SONY VAIO (vgn-A190)
developed startup problems ? The computer was working good before I
uninstalled two updates, now when it goes through the startup process it ends
with a BLUE SCREEN with the message ‘STOP: c0000135 {unable to locate
component} This application has failed to start because winsrv was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.’ I CANNOT MOVE
FROM THIS (BLUE) SCREEN TO DO ANYTHING ELSE, NOT EVEN (ctr-alt-del) TO
RESTART THE COMPUTER. This SCREEN also shows up if I use (F8) and try to
START IN SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE w/COMMAND PROMPT and/or LAST GOOD KNOWN
CONFIGURATION. This computer is running HOME XP w/SP2. I have also tried
(F10) and/or my SONY VAIO RECOVERY DISKS but MY only CHOICE IS TO reformat my
C: and/or C: & D: PARTITIONS. There is a message that tells me to backup all
me personal files and data before restoring the C: drive, I CANNOT GET TO THE
FILES TO SAVE THEM NOW. I have just a few folders on the C: portion that I
would like to copy to the D: drive then I could reinstall XP on the C: drive
again. SO IF SOMEONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO GET OFF THE BLUE SCREEN OR PAST THE
SAFE MODE AND GET TO THE C: or D: PROMPT I CAN COPY THESE FOLDERS FROM THE C:
DRIVE USING THE ‘DOS COMMANDS’ (xcopy). *Thanks for any help or ideas any of
you can provide. (COULD I NETWORK THESE TWO COMPUTERS TOGETHER WHEN THE ONE
(sony) HAS THIS STARTUP PROBLEM OR DO I NEED IT OPERATIONAL BEFORE I CAN
NETWORK THEM TOGETHER ? Thanks for any help you can provide. *ps; this is
not the first time this lockup w/error message has occurred but with a
different file it couldn’t locate, dll file I think..

You receive a Stop c0000135 and winsrv was not found error message after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2:
