Putting the host PC into standby

I have a dedicated music server which I access soley with remote desktop as
it has no keyboard/mouse connected and is in a location that is hard to
access. I never turn it off as Wake On Lan doesn't work when the PC is in
this state. The ability to put the host PC into hibernation or standby is not
available when connecting with remote desktop.

Is there a work around to this limitation? I would like to be able to not
only control the PC, but to control it's power state as well.

Another question I have: Is there a way to access the host PC using remote
desktop yet have the screen of the host computer mirror the screen of the
client computer instead of defaulting to the login screen. Remote Assistance
is a great option but you are required to attend to too many dialog boxes on
the host during the connection phase which is not practical.

Thanks,
