All links in Help for my Windows XP Home are not working. Whenever I click on
either related topics or other links, I got only another notepad icon in
notes and that's it/
Please, help?!

Hi Ramesh,

I did both things that were recommended - regsrv and downloading, but it did
not help. The problem still stays the same

Elvart,

What's the Service Pack level of your computer? Have you read the SP2 part
of that page? The update referred at the bottom of the page does not apply
if you're already using XP SP2 (indicated in that page itself)

Elvart,

You mean you uninstalled SP2, and then downloaded this update ?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2a086526-ae89-4cb3-a819-e6da160f2e66&DisplayLang=en
(This is for Pre-XPSP2 systems)

The prime reason for Help and Support Center index problem is that the
following ActiveX Controls are set the Kill-bit (the MS Updates sets them)
for security:

{ADB880A6-D8FF-11CF-9377-00AA003B7A11}
{41B23C28-488E-4E5C-ACE2-BB0BBABE99E8}

Elvart,

My general advice is that you install SP2 (not for this particular problem
but my general advice), as it has many security enhancements.

To verify if an ActiveX Control is set the Kill-bit, open Regedit.exe and
navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX
Compatibility\{GUID}

See if the "Compatibility Flags" value is set to 400, in the right-pane. If
so, that control is blocked for security purposes.

Where the {GUID}entries for Help Control are:

{ADB880A6-D8FF-11CF-9377-00AA003B7A11}
{41B23C28-488E-4E5C-ACE2-BB0BBABE99E8}

To remove the Kill-bit, backup the particular registry key and delete the
"Compatibility Flags" value. Restart Help and Support Center.

Thanks so much Ramesh!
Everything is back to normal. Also, I would like you to know that this
action corrected another annoyance I had. Before I, when I move pointer onto
icons in a right area of a taskbar, the hints were displayed behind the
taskbar, so only part of them was visible. Now this is OK too.
