Generic Host Error

I am having a problem on an XP Home SP2 PC that has just started
happening. The error must be occuring when the PC is shut down. The PC
shows no problems running programs and does not cause any problems.
Then when the PC is shut down it does so normally. However the next
morning when it is started up again I receive an error message with the
date and time for it shown as being the previous evening when the PC was
shut down. The error message can be cleared from the screen and the PC
acts normally throughout the day. The message will appear again the
next morning with the shutdown time of the previous evening shown.

Thw error says," Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a
problem and needed to close. This error occurred 5/10/2005 at 11:53:33
PM", for example. The following parameters are shown:

azAppName: svchost.exe
szAppVer: 0.0.0.0
szModName: unknown
szModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 00000000

This error does not happen on all shutdowns but more often than not. I
have run Norton Win Doctor and it has not found anything. I have let
the error be reported to Microsoft on a few occasions. All of the
critical updates have been applied.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
