Multiple collections

I want to use clips from more than one collection in a movie. Is it possible
to do this with Movie Maker?

yes, drag whatever clips you want from your collections into the project..

Thanks for your response. However, I'm finding when I try to include a clip
from a second collection on the story board, the thumbnail pictures from the
1st collection are replaced by an "X" onthe story board. (Note that each
collection is imported from a separate DVD.)

if you're importing clips directly from a DVD... you'll have red-Xs as soon
as you remove the DVD from your computer....

the importing process isn't one that copies the files... they are only
linked to, so the originals need to stay in place... copy them from the DVDs
and then import them from your hard drive locations.

Thanks for your help. BAsed on your advice, I'm going to try to make about
40 Giga-bytes of old movies resident in order to combine clips from these
collections into a series of family movies. I'm now in the process of
"cleaning house" to facilitate that.

Thanks again.

Sad to say, I haven't been able to make additional collections on DVDs
resident because I get an error message that there is not enough space in
any file I attempt to use. However, I have 44.9 GB of free space overall
and each DVD has about 4.2 GB of data. Do I have to expand a file size and
then copy into that file? If so, how do I do this?

I guess I thought you had source files on DVDs that work in Movie Maker....
which wouldn't be normal DVD video files (vobs)...

For vobs, you need to rip and convert to get them to AVI files, and then use
the AVIs. Is that more what you're trying to do?

The DVD's are in AVI fromat and can be imported directly into Movie Maker.
However, as you have pointed out, I will have to make the data resident if I
want to use more than one to complete a movie.

Are the files larger than 4GB and is your HDD formatted NTFS or FAT32?
FAT32 has a filesize limit so if the files are too large that could be why
you are not able to copy them to your HDD.

Thank you, Thank you.

My HDD is formatted in FAT32. One of the DVDs is over 4 GB and the other 6
are less than 4 GB. Wouldn't you know this was the one which I was trying to
copy without success. I was able to copy the other 6. So I am able to
access the large one on the DVD drive and the others are now resident on my
hard disk, and I can now edit with multiple collections as input!

Thanks again for all your help.

No problem.
I would suggest though that if you are going to do a lot of video editing
then FAT32 will constantly get in your way because of the filesize limit.
