Hi, My PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K12D does not read DVDs, it's ok with CDs it
R/W with no problems. But the DVD does not work. I don't know what the
problem is because I have uninstalled and taken appart my Toshiba
Satellite Laptop (No warranty left... so I might as well break it
myself). and reinstalled everything but it doesn't read DVDs any more.
The only thing left for me to do is to reformat the hard disk, but the
recovery is in a DVD so I can't read it in order to recover my PC.
HELLPPP!!!

If your drive is still in warranty, I'd return it and get another one. The
laser is probably gone. These type of drives use different lasers for
reading cds and dvds. If it's out of warranty, then you'll better off just
buying another one. Combo drives have gotten dirt cheap now. I just
checked on newegg.com and there was some less than $40.

Hope this helps,
