Re: "MSDV.sys" fix for Canon MV20 Scrambled Capture with SP2

Like I wrote the problems appeared after installing SP2. Ive tested
antoher camera (an older Panasonic DV) on my computer with SP2 and it
works, so nothing is wrong with the firewire or applications. Ive also
tested my camera on another computer also running SP2 with the same
result, scrambled picture. For me its obvious that the problem is the
new driver in SP2 that causes the problems.

So, is there an easy way to fully rollback to the old SP1 driver. The
tip described in this thread by Kristen Miller gives the picture back
but not the sound, so the rollback is not 100 % complete.

If I dont find a solution to the problem soon Im going to reinstall
my computer with XP SP1.

Regards
Per

I am trying my best here, but unless you can give the info I need to pass on
to MS, it's no use just complaining.
FYI, MS implemented the full ieee1394 standards in SP2, and it appears to be
that some camcorders are/have not implementing the standard in their
firmware which is causing the problem.

OK sorry, heres the full story.

Cameramodel: Canon MV20, PAL, Model: DM-MV20E, S/N: 6010391136.
Purchased in Sweden in summer of 2000. My computer has an ASUS
motherboard type P4P800 Deluxe-EAY, S/N: 39MG173945, with an integrated
firewire port.

Before I upgraded to SP2 everything was OK, both picture & sound. Ive
worked with Movie Maker, Premiere & Pinnacle Studio, all three working.
After upgrading both the picture & sound were crap in all apps. You can
see antoher description of the same problem here:
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t247647.html. (theres also a
link to the description of how to solve the problem by Kirsten Miller).
I got exactly the same scrambled picture.

After trying to fix the problem with the tip by Kristen Millers the
picture comes back but not the sound. The sound sometimes gets some
kind of echoes and sometimes distortion like when youre scratching
with an LP. Before I downgraded the MSDV.SYS SP2 driver it had version
nr 5.3.2600.2180. After downgrading 5.1.2600.0. This is only file Ive
managed to replace. Ive also tested to replace ks.sys and stream.sys
but they were reinstalled in the SP2 version after rebooting so nothing
were changed.

Hope this info is enough for you. Otherwise post specific questions you
need answers to.

Best wishes.

Per,
Thanks for all of that. To make it easier to contact you if I get info from
MS, would you mind visiting my site here,

and emailing me with permission to email you directly with any info I get.
Save you searching for it on the NG's. In the mean time, I'll record you cam
details with the others.
