I am currently running an XP home SP2 machine. I cant find any information on
this service, but it keeps failing on bootup. There is no information
available on any search facility about this service, and microsoft an any
other official site, have no record full stop. Thanks

That's a Trojan. I suggest you update your virus software and then run it.
Then download, install, update and run all of the following.
Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Spybot search and destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta1)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=321CD7A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en
If none of the above fixes the issue then download Hijack this, run it, save
a copy of the log file and cut and paste it back here to the group so that
it can be analyzed.

NTSVCMGR might be a Malware service, and your Anti-virus have probably
deleted the Service's executable.
Type this in Start/Run:
cmd /k sc qc NTSVCMGR
Note down the Binary Path Name. Mark the contents and post the information
here. Event Log is another source of information about Service failures.
1. Click Start, Run and type eventvwr.msc
2. Select Application entry in the left pane
3. In the right-pane, look for the Error entry denoted by a Red X
4. Sort by date and track-down the entry based on what time the error
exactly occurred. Locate and double-click the entry and you'll see more
information in the resulting dialog. Click the copy button at the top and
copy the whole event and paste it to a Notepad document and save it. Post
the information here.
General information on removing an unwanted / Malware service:
Use the "SC DELETE <...>" Command-line, or follow the instructions to remove
a Service / driver from the registry directly.
The Service and driver entries are present under this registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services]
Each sub-key represents a driver or a Service. To modify/delete a 3rd party
service, click Start, Run and type REGEDIT to open the Registry Editor and
navigate to the above location.You should be able to identify them easily by
reading the "DisplayName" and "ImagePath" fields in the right-pane in the
Registry Editor.
Note: Before modifying / removing a Service, create a System Restore point
or a complete Registry backup, just in case something happens.

And, run a full system virus scan with fully updated definitions. Try Trend
Micro's Sysclean package (free), it's capable of eliminating keyloggers,
trojans etc.

The following simplifies the Trend Sysclean utility process and provides the Sophos and
McAfee Command Line Scanners.
Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe
It is a self-extracting ZIP file that contains the Kixtart Script Interpreter {
http://kixtart.org Kixtart is CareWare } three batch files, five Kixtart scripts, one Link
(.LNK) file, this PDF instruction file and two utilities; UNZIP.EXE and WGET.EXE. It will
simplify the process of using up to 3 different Anti Virus Command Line Scanners to remove
viruses and various other malware.
C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode. This
way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor’s web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Exit the menu and Reboot the PC.
You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.
When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file.
To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close
Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }
NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE and/or FTP.EXE to go
through your FireWall to allow them to download the needed AV vendor related files.
* * * Please report back your results * * *
