Nero?

I'm not happy with the Sonic software that came with my computer. I would
like to edit dvr-ms files (among many other things)and am wondering what you
think of Nero 6.6? I have their cd burner at work and like it.

It's the only burning application I use normally. My current version is
6.6.0.12 and is pretty decent except it's a bit of a resouce pig. I went
ahead and paid for the updated version for the extra features and they give
me updates for free so that's a good thing. It is my opinion (and I can't
prove this which is why it's an opinion) that I make fewer coasters with it
than I do with other applications. Watch out for adding too many sessions to
a disk as it can make the whole disk become unreadable after a while. It
really does eat a lot of resources - even on a system with a couple gigs of
RAM it is "slow" opening. (Slow meaning slower than what I'd expect, a
couple of seconds really isn't that long and is less so when you've used
some of the older systems and pretty much certain that you're going to be
waiting around for a while when you open stuff. But it's slower opening than
it probably should be.)

I use it and like it,althrough sometimes it will hang when finalizing a
disk, seems to happen more often when "verify disk" is checked.
You can try the full package for free I believe its a 15 day trial period.

What Sonic software are you using, and what version? Roxio Creator 7.5 is
much better than Nero.

Hi, roxio is not any better than nero, neither is nero any better than
roxio, it is purely a matter of preference....

I don't think there's much difference either, possibly Roxio's interface is
a little easier at first.

I'm not sure about the current versions, but a while back, it was
almost impossible to get both Roxio and Nero to run on the
same machine. There were many many reports from people
with that problem. If you are thinking of trying both, you might
want to google around a bit and see if that is still an issue. I
am still using Nero 5.5.something (their latest version 5) and
have been very happy with it. It is a bit of a different GUI
than Roxio though.

Didn't know that burning software offered editing of files within its
application.
That appeared to be the crux/basis for your question.

The large CD/DVD suites also have a media authoring section. Both Roxio
Easy Media and Nero will allow you to create your own DVDs.
