Dual Boot with two Win XP's

I had a HD with two partitions into one of which Win 2K English was
installed and into the other of which Win 2K Japanese was installed.
When the computer got up, it offered choice between the two as expected.
Now I upgrated the Japanese Win 2K to Japanese Win XP Pro. When the
computer was booted, there was still choice menu between the twolanguage
editions. However, when I upgraded the English Win 2K to English Win XP
Home edition, too, there is no longer choice menu at the booting and the
computer automatically booted to English Win XP. I realize that the dual
boot system with Win XP must be between Win XP of NTFS file system and
that its counterpart must have a file system other than NTFS. My problem
is that when Win XP Home edition (English in this case) was installed,
it does not offer file systems but NTFS.
My question is whether Win XP HOME edition uses exclusively NTFS, while
Win XP PROFESSIONAL edition can be installed either with FAT32 or
FAT32? If I convert the installed Japanese Win XP of NTFS to that of
FAT32 (because I do not have English Win XP Pro), will it restore the
dual boot?

You cannot "upgrade" Windows 2000 to Windows XP Home Edition.
Windows XP Professional is required to "upgrade" over Windows 2000.

Also, read the following:

Your dual boot loss is because you didn't upgrade, you did a fresh install
and wiped out the old OS. The fact that you are mentioning files systems as
part of the install process makes me think that.

If you did that your boot.ini file was wiped out.

Quick fix -

Open the boot.ini file (youmay need to view hidden files) Copy the line that
referances the xp home install to a new line.
change the part where it says partition to 2
Change the text in the quotes to reflect text that tells you what the other
OS is.

Dear Carey,
What I meant was that I overwritten (by clean installation) Win 2K Pro
English with Win XP Home English (NTFS without choice) in Partition C,
so I consequently had Win XP Home English in Partition C and Win 2K Pro
Japanese in Partition D. As I described in my first posting, while dual
boot worked fine when both were Win 2K, conversion of one of the two to
XP HOME with NTFS resulted in cancellation of dual boot system.

My question again: Will it safies for successful dual boot to apply NTFS
to English XP and FAT32 to Japanese XP (or vice versa)? Or are you
saying that I must use XP PRO in both languages regarless of file systems?
Your kind response will be highly appreciated.
